Weather Underground midday recap for Saturday, April 06, 2013.
Wet and snowy weather spread across the Upper Midwest and Great Lakes on Saturday, while a combination of rain and mountain snow persisted for the Northwestern corner of the nation. A low pressure system moved over the Northern Plains and toward the Great Lakes, which pushed snow showers into northern Minnesota, northern Wisconsin, and much of Michigan. Rain showers developed to the south, from eastern South Dakota, through Iowa and southern Minnesota, into Wisconsin. Some areas saw a messy combination of freezing rain as temperatures warmed above freezing and allowed for snow showers to turn to rain showers.
Meanwhile out West, another low pressure system moved over the Pacific Northwest and into the Intermountain West. This pulled Pacific moisture onshore, while also dragging a cold front through the region. Widespread rain and high elevation snow showers developed from western Oregon and Washington, through Idaho, and into Montana and western Wyoming. The southern side of this system brought increasing clouds with scattered showers to northern Nevada and Utah.
Elsewhere, shower and thunderstorm activity diminished for the Southeast on Saturday as a low pressure system and associated cold front finally pulled offshore and into the Atlantic Ocean. This allowed for warm, dry, and pleasant conditions to return for Florida and the Southeast.
Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Saturday have ranged from a morning low of -5 degrees at Mt. Washington, N.H. to a midday high of 85 degrees at Pecos, Texas
