ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Get ready as summer travel season kicks off in a big way this weekend with the Memorial Day holiday.
More than 2.5 million people in the mountain region, which is where New Mexico falls in, are expected to hit the road this holiday weekend.
AAA predicts folks will travel 50 miles or more from home.
While auto travel overall across the country is up slightly, air travel is down 6.5 percent.
The average mountain-region resident will drive on average a total of 800 miles round trip.
