ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - His first day of practice with the New Orleans Saints is Friday. Former New Mexico State receiver and kick returner Chris Williams is getting another shot at the NFL after signing with the Saints as a practice player.
Williams turned heads during his first attempt at the league two seasons ago. His blazing speed nearly got him a roster spot with the Miami Dolphins.
Williams suffered a broken hand during camp and was later released before landing with the Cleveland Browns for a brief stay.
He went on to the Canadian Football League where he had tremendous success as a receiver and kick returner for the Hamilton Tiger Cats.
A contract dispute caused Williams to sit out for the 2012 season. Both sides settled their differences Wednesday and 24 hours later, Williams found himself a member of the Saints practice squad.
