ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - There may be a fight brewing between UNM and Steve Alford over the terms of his buyout .
Four days after Alford announced he was leaving for UCLA, UNM sent the former Lobo coach a letter calling for a $1 million buyout.
The letter goes on to say that because Alford quit on March 30th – he was still under his old contract which required 30 days notice if he wanted to leave. That would make his last day April 29th. – which would be after his new contract would have kicked in.
The new contract calls for a $1 million buyout
UNM says it wants $1 million by April 29th.
Alford has said that he quit before his new contract started – so he should only owe the University $150,000.
