HILLSBORO, N.M. (KRQE) - A health warning was triggered by the Silver Fire burning in the Gila Thursday.
Wind is pushing smoke from that massive fire toward Albuquerque and it could be in the metro area by Thursday morning.
Meanwhile, firefighters are doing what they can to battle the Silver Fire that is now at 17,000 acres.
The flames have reached the edge of Kingston , where everyone has been evacuated.
Firefighters have been working to protect homes with a fire line and so far it is working.
As of Wednesday night, the fire has not destroyed any homes or buildings.
Most of the Silver Fire is burning in rugged terrain, making it hard to fight from the ground.
Large helicopters are now able to drop water on some of the edge of the fire to slow it down.
None of the fire is contained.
