WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. has acknowledged a sharp disagreement with China over how the international community should respond to the use of chemical weapons in Syria.
Secretary of State John Kerry was speaking Thursday at the State Department before a meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
China has strongly opposed strikes on Syria by the U.S. or its allies, and with Russia has opposed U.N. Security Council action against Syria.
Kerry called on China to play a "positive, constructive and important role" in the council.
Wang said China welcomed the agreement between the U.S. and Russia to put Syria's chemical weapons under international supervision.
He said China would continue to play a constructive role in supporting a political resolution to the Syrian conflict.
