The Northeast will continue to feel the impacts of a series of cold fronts on Friday, as cooler air and thunderstorms will affect the region. Meanwhile, parts of the Great Basin and central Rockies will continue to get slammed by thunderstorms throughout the day.
The Northeast will experience a significant change in weather on Friday as a series of cold fronts will continue to propagate southward. Temperatures are expected to drop 5 to 10 degrees heading into the weekend for parts of the Great Lakes region, as well as into the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast. Along with the change in temperatures, showers and thunderstorms will affect the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast. There is a slight chance that severe thunderstorms will develop on Friday in parts of the Northeast. Tropical Storm Gabrielle is expected to transition into a post tropical storm, although wave heights will remain above average along the Northeast coast on Friday.
The Southeast will remain relatively warm and dry throughout the day, while thunderstorms may develop along the Florida coast.
Showers and thunderstorms will continue to bring flooding to parts of Great Basin and central Rockies. As grounds are already saturated, local mountains and valleys will be vulnerable to flash flooding. Expect the wet weather to linger throughout the day and into the nighttime hours.
The West Coast is expected to stay relatively dry throughout the day, although some showers and thunderstorms may develop in Nevada and parts of the northeastern Sierra Nevadas. Temperatures will remain between the 60s and 70s along the coast.
Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Thursday have ranged from a morning low of 37 degrees at Truckee-Tahoe, Calif. to a high of 99 degrees at Hugo, Okla.
