RIO RANCHO, N.M. (KRQE) - A Rio Rancho veteran, who served as a Tuskegee Airman during World War II and later served during Vietnam, has died.
John Edward Allen was just 17-years-old when he was assigned to the 332nd fighter wing of the Tuskegee Airmen, the first black aviators in U.S. military history.
Allen and the 300 original Tuskegee Airmen were awarded a Congressional Gold Medal in 2007.
He was also awarded the air force commendation medal for his service in Vietnam.
Allen was 84-years-old.
