MORA, N.M. (KRQE) - It looks like that puzzling elk die-off in northern New Mexico was caused by something they drank.
More than 100 dead elk were found in a square mile area on a ranch near Mora in August.
The Game and Fish Department tested their tissue and nearby water samples.
They now believe the doomed elk drank water from a tank that contained a toxic algae bloom which can kill an animal within hours.
Some brazen thieves made off with a man's prized possession, and now the victim is hoping for some holiday justice. Little did the suspects' know, their entire crime was caught on camera.
