ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - This year's Spam contest at the New Mexico State Fair was a family affair.
The annual Great American Spam Cookoff took place Thursday at Expo New Mexico.
This year's theme? Spam sandwiches.
Contestants tried to make the best sandwich using the canned meat and up to 10 other ingredients. They were judged on taste, creativity and presentation.
The adult winner was Janet Braithwaite with her Spam Croissant Surprise. The first place kid winner was Janet's niece, Michaela Payne, who made a Nutty Spam Surprise.
They each win $150 and a chance to go to the national competition.
