ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Get ready to enjoy fried foods, rides and lots of other events.
It is opening day at the State Fair grounds at Expo New Mexico and in just a few hours everything will be up and running.
Despite the rain Tuesday, crews and vendors spent the day making sure everything was ready when the gates open.
The carnival at the midway, exhibits, livestock shows and concession alley will all open at 10 a.m. Wednesday morning.
The fair will run for 12 days and ends on the September 22nd.
There are some new things including a brand new roller coaster called the “Comet 2” which is the largest mobile roller coaster in the western hemisphere.
Plus there is a lot of new food to enjoy and other new exhibits.
As for the weather, the recent rain is something state fair officials are not too worried about.
”You know people in New Mexico are resilient they've come to expect this we've cranially come to expect this so people tend to come out anyway and grab something to eat, go inside and enjoy some exhibits and wait for the weather to clear up and then come back out and enjoy some spectacular weather once it's cleared out,’ Michael Henningsen with the New Mexico State Fair said.
State police are also gearing up to make sure fair goers stay safe.
Officers will be patrolling the fair 24/7 and will team up with the APD Gang Unit and Bernalillo County Sheriffs Department among other departments.
“We want to stress that this is a fun place to bring your family. So people who are coming up to create ruckus and create heartache for these families. We won’t be tolerating that,” Sgt. Emmanuel Gutierrez said.
Saturday is the annual State Fair Parade.
Ticket prices remain the same as last year, $10 for adults, $7 for seniors and children.
