ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Police say a few kids are lucky to be alive after being swept away while playing in an arroyo late Saturday afternoon.
Albuquerque police say three children ages 11, 13 and 14 were playing in an arroyo near Presbyterian Hospital on Yale and Gibson.
That's when two of the kids were swept away by water.
The 13-year-old and police helped get the other two kids out.
The 11- and 14-year-old kids were taken to UNM hospital.
“Once that water came rushing through, they were just thrown around so rapidly. They had a lot of scrapes, bruises and bumps,” said APD officer Daren DeAguero. “They were just taken down there for precautionary measures.”
Police say this was a perfect example of the dangers of playing in an arroyo.
Manners matter especially during the holiday season.
