SANTE FE (KRQE) - The Santa Fe school district is getting ready to sue the state, claiming New Mexico doesn't satisfy a constitutional mandate of sufficient funding for public education.
According to the Albuquerque Journal, the Santa Fe district's board has earmarked about $100,000 in its budget for the yet-to-be-filed lawsuit.
The legislative finance committee chairman told the journal lawmakers have tried to adequately fund education in recent years while balancing the state budget.
The school district is hoping other districts will join the lawsuit.
