LAS CRUCES (KRQE) - Former Gov. Garrey Carruthers will get paid about $385,000 a year to be president of New Mexico State University.
Regents named Carruthers, 73, to the posted last week and released details of his contract on Friday. He had been serving as dean of the NMSU College of Business and vice president for economic development.
Under the contract the regents could terminate the deal immediately by a majority vote, but it requires Carruthers to give six months' notice if he resigns.
The salary is the same as former NMSU President Barbara Couture who left the school last year under circumstances that never have been explained by her or the regents.
