ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - UNM police are searching for two suspects who are accused of groping a female student on campus Sunday afternoon.
Authorities say a female student was running around Johnson Field, near the tennis courts, when she saw the men approaching her from the opposite direction. As she ran past them, the men cornered her.
She told police the men held her and then forced themselves on her, eventually groping her under her clothing.
Police say the attack was short thanks to the victim's quick thinking.
"She screamed and continued to scream very loud and i think they got scared at that time and ran off," Lt. Robert Haarhues said.
The victim described both men as college-aged black males, wearing black sweat pants and black hoodies. One man was 6 foot tall and the other is 5 foot 7 inches tall.
They got into a compact dark blue car with tinted windows.
Both UNM police and APD are looking for that car and the two suspects. Police are also looking at surveillance video to see if the attack was caught on tape.
Police have released sketches of the two men.
If caught, both suspects will face felony sexual assault charges.
UNM police sent out a letter to students and staff alerting them about the assault. Also police are urging students to travel in groups when possible and to call police if an escort is needed.
Police are asking the public to call police at 277-2241 if you see anyone acting suspiciously or matching the description.
