ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Albuquerque police have made an arrest in a gold exchange store robbery last month that left the store’s clerk dead.
According to a tipster who knows the suspect, it was cold-blooded murder.
Police arrested Manuel Gardner Sunday after getting tips from witnesses who saw the security video and from someone who says they know him well.
Police believe Gardner walked into the National Jewelry Buyers store , on Coors near Cottownwood, three weeks ago with a red bandanna on when he shot and killed the clerk.
Surveillance video played a major role in Gardner’s capture.
A neighbor from where Gardner often stayed on the West Side said she recognized him from surveillance video and called police a few days after the crime.
Witnesses also reported seeing the beaten up white Crown Victoria that was seen outside the jewelry exchange before and after the murder.
Police actually pulled Gardner over last week after spotting the car without a license plate or temporary tag, but let him go.
Then on Friday, someone who says they have known Gardner for years came forward to police saying that Gardner confessed to killing the clerk in the gold exchange store because he thought the clerk recognized him.
The person also said Gardner admitted to making off with about $1,700.
Gardner is in jail on a $1 million cash only bond.
