RIO RANCHO, N.M. (KRQE) - A Rio Rancho father has been arrested after his 1 1/2-year-old daughter was found wandering the streets barefoot and by herself.
Abel Valdez, 26, is charged with child abuse.
On Wednesday a passerby noticed Valdez's daughter in her pajamas playing in the middle of Augusta Hills Drive.
She picked the girl up and called police.
Officers say they stumbled upon the girl's grandmother who pointed them to the girl's home. Officers say they found Valdez asleep.
Valdez's 4-year-old daughter was there. She told police she had warned her dad the toddler had gone outside, but he ignored her and went back to sleep.
