MIMBRES, N.M. (KRQE) - The mother of a 3-year-old Mimbres girl, who was beaten to death, has now also been charged in connection with her death.
Grant County deputies say on February 7th, 3-year-old Alizandra Jasso was thrown against a toilet and shower door after soiling herself.
She was declared brain dead and died three days later. Doctors also found signs of past abuse.
Investigators say the mother's boyfriend 29-year-old Nickolas Grijalva is the one who did it.
He was arrested last week.
Now they have also arrested the girl's mother Jacylynn Legarda.
Investigators say not only did she put Alizandra and her other two children in danger, but after Alizandra's death she tried to cover up the crime and protect her boyfriend.
The mother claimed the girl had fallen down a hillside the day she was beaten.
Legarda is charged with a number of crimes including child abuse and contributing to the delinquency of a minor for trying to get her other two children to lie about what happened.
Some brazen thieves made off with a man's prized possession, and now the victim is hoping for some holiday justice. Little did the suspects' know, their entire crime was caught on camera.
