SANTA FE (KRQE) - A Santa Fe jury late Thursday convicted landlord Arthur Anaya of murdering two tenants over a late rent payment.
Anaya was found guilty of first-degree murder in the shooting deaths of Theresa Vigil, 51, and Austin Urban, 16 in January 2012. Urban had been identified as the boyfriend of Vigil's daughter.
While prosecutors said late rent was being the murders, Anaya's defense argued he acted in self-defense.
Anaya was on the lam for four days after the murders until officers cornered him in a vacant house nearby.
A detective testified that as officers moved in Anaya pointed a gun at him and pulled the trigger, but the weapon didn't fire.
