ARTESIA, N.M. (KRQE) - A former Artesia High School football star convicted in the death of his 4-month-old daughter could be released from prison while his case is appealed.
In December 2007, Robert Flores put his daughter in a full laundry basket, then put the basket in a closet for hours while he went to buy beer. The child's mother found her body hours later.
Flores was found guilty in February and was sentenced in April to 18 years in prison.
Last week, the judge set an $80,000 appeal bond for Flores.
His defense attorney says he fully expects Flores' family to post the $8,000 needed to free him until a ruling on his appeal is made.
