RIO RANCHO, N.M. (KRQE) - The former State Police officer and his son – both accused of murder – tried Monday to convince a judge to let them out of jail.
Jack and John McDowell are accused of killing James Chavez, 35, in his Rio Rancho home two years ago, possibly over a dispute over drugs.
Shortly after retiring from State Police, Jack McDowell pleaded guilty to drug charges. His son has a history of assault and burglary charges.
On Monday, the pair went before a judge asking that he reduce their $1 million bond. The judge refused.
The pair is expected to go on trial for the murder sometime next year.
