ROSWELL, NM (KRQE) - The owner of a soon to be horse slaughterhouse in Roswell, NM is still waiting for a USDA inspection which would allow them to open.
The attorney for Valley Meat Company had told KRQE News 13 their hope was to get the inspection done this week however, Monday they are still working through things with the USDA and have not been given an inspection date.
The opening of the slaughterhouse has been plagued by controversy.
The owners eventually sued claiming there was not good reason for the USDA to deny their application. The USDA responded by granting the inspection but have yet to actually visit the premises.
