CORONA, N.M. (KRQE) - A mishap on the Union Pacific Railroad in Torrance County Thursday halted rail traffic and brought out emergency responders.
Aerial video from Sky News 13 over the scene about 10 miles northeast of Corona showed one set of wheels of a grain car off the rails and resting on the wooden ties. The wheels appeared to be separated from the side fram connecting the two.
The derailment apparently threw off enough sparks to ignite a small brush fire that didn't spread far before firefighters corralled it.
The damaged car remained upright.
It is not known how long it will take to repair the car and reopen the cross-country line that runs from El Paso, Texas, through Alamogordo and Tucumcari into the Texas Panhandle and points east.
