DURANGO, COLO (KRQE) - The Vallecito Fire burning east of Durango continues to grow.

So far the blaze has destroyed about 1,000 acres and is 25 percent contained.

The fire has been burning since mid-October.

Fire officials say the heavy dead and dried up brush is fueling the fire which is leading to smoke filled skies in the area.

The fire is believed to have been started by lightning.
