SILVER CITY, N.M. (AP) - Fire crews are heading back to the scene of a wildfire that was sparked by a train south of Silver City to finish corralling the blaze.

New Mexico State Forestry spokesman Dan Ware says crews were able to get ahead of the blaze Wednesday afternoon after it burned an estimated 1,000 acres west of the Grants County airport. The fire threatened several ranch homes in the area as it burned through grass and brush.

Ware says Grants County and U.S. Forest Service crews were able to stop the fire's spread and will be back on the lines Thursday to finish mopping up hot spots.
