ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - A severe thunderstorm prompted a tornado warning in central Torrance County Sunday afternoon.

Shortly before 3:30 p.m. the National Weather Service reported the dangerous storm was about 24 miles northwest of Vaughn and moving south at about 5 mph.

The tornado warning for rural east-central Torrance County was to be in effect until 4:15. p.m. but was canceled about 3:50 p.m. as the storm weakened.

However, strong winds, small hail and heavy rains are still possible from the storm.

At last report the storm was moving south-southeast generally along U.S. Highway 285.
