Mild storm brings rain, slick roads

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - A relatively mild winter storm bringing rain and snow to much of New Mexico could make for tough travel in the mountains.

National Weather Service meteorologist Jason Frazier says the highest peaks in northern parts of the state could see as much as a foot of snow but the system is fairly warm and snow levels shouldn't drop low enough for Santa Fe or Albuquerque to see more than an occasional flurry.

The state Transportation Department says crews in the northern mountains were starting to see snow falling Friday morning. Spokesman Kenny Lujan says the heaviest is falling in Glorieta Pass on Interstate 25 but no roads are closed.

The rain and snow should last through the day before clearing briefly. Another storm is expected to move in Saturday afternoon.
