ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Flash-flood warnings are out around the Jemez Mountains as a storm producing "torrential downpours" moves through the area and over mountains and canyons denuded by the Las Conchas forest fire.

The flood warning issued by the National Weather Service extends until 8 p.m. and includes parts of Rio Arriba, Sandoval, Santa Fe and Los Alamos counties.

Shortly after 5 p.m. the storm was drifting to the southwest near and west of Santa Clara Pueblo and Los Alamos.

A rain gauge north of Los Alamos near Santa Clara Canyon recorded 1 inch of rain in 35 minutes producing significant flow down the canyon, which discharges through the pueblo.

Flash flooding closed State Road 501 between Los Alamos National Laboratory and State Road 4 after radar indicated 1.5 inches of rain had fallen nearby.

Floodwaters also may reach Española, the weather service said.
