ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Dangerous weather and violent twisters that moved through Dallas Tuesday kept a number of flights grounded in Albuquerque and some flights to and from Dallas have been canceled Wednesday.

Although the Dallas/Fort Worth Airport opened Wednesday, more than 100 planes sustained hail damage in the storm and are now grounded.

Because Dallas is a major hub for flight traffic, hundreds of passengers heading to Dallas were unable to fly out of Albuquerque Tuesday.

Wednesday, those passengers and many others are trying to fly out to Dallas, but there are still cancelations.

A flight to Dallas on American Airlines was canceled Wednesday morning. Also a planned arrival from Dallas was also canceled.

Around 2:30 Wednesday afternoon another American Airlines, a British Airways flight was canceled and an arriving flight from Dallas scheduled for an hour earlier were all canceled.

According to online airline schedules, flights after two thirty should be back to normal.

Tuesday, there were over 200 people from all over the country in the state for a Rhodes Scholars convention who tried to leave Albuquerque.

A couple that could not make the trip home to Arkansas Tuesday because it was first scheduled to land in Dallas.

“When we found out that everything was canceled, actually I began praying for the people in Dallas that no one would be killed or hurt badly,” Kanty Crone said. “It was ok with me. Whatever, I know we're going to get home.”

The only flights at the Sunport that were affected by the storm were those to and from Dallas.
