Utility repairs close Central lanes

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - A water-main break on Central Avenue just west of the Rio Grande backed up traffic across the river toward downtown Monday afternoon and evening.

One westbound lane was open at 40th Street NW as utility personnel worked on repairs, the Albuquerque Bernalillo County Water Utility reported.

The repairs were taking longer than expected as the workers probe for gas lines in the area before digging down to the water line, a utility spokesperson said.

Low water pressure and complete outages were affecting about 25 homes and businesses in the area.

At about 7 p.m. the utility reported the line break had been repaired, but two lanes of Central will remain closed until the pavement can be repaired.
