SANTA FE (KRQE) - Homes and businesses along Cerrillos Road in Santa Fe were evacuated after a car crashed into a gasoline tanker on the busy thoroughfare Friday afternoon.
No injuries were reported, and no gas leaked or caught fire after the crash about 4 p.m.
Shortly before 6 p.m. people were allowed back into their homes and businesses. About eight blocks of Cerrillos remained closed between St. Michael's Drive and Camino Carlos Rey for another 20 minutes until the tanker could be towed away.
Police reported the car damaged an axle of the tanker making the truck too dangerous to move until the gas could be transferred to a second truck. Emergency managers were concerned the damaged axle might generate sparks and a fire threat.
The cargo was successfully transferred to the second tanker, and the evacuations were then lifted.
There was no immediate information on details of the crash or any citations.
