ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Hydraulic fluid spilled across Interstate 25 late Friday afternoon shutting down the northbound lanes in downtown Albuquerque for nearly 4 1/2 hours.
The spill occurred shortly after 5 p.m. north of the Lead Avenue exit when what is described as a lint truck broke down and leaked the oily fluid.
No injuries were reported. Additional details have not been released.
At its peak the traffic backup extended major south about three miles past the Sunport Boulevard exit.
The cleanup took until about 9:20 p.m. with traffic being diverted to surface streets.
Meanwhile a crash involving multiple vehicles occurred in the backup at about 9 p.m.
Reports from the scene indicate five vehicles and an 18-wheel tanker collided forcing the freeway to be shut down there just and authorities lifted the closure to the north.
