WHITE ROCK, N.M. (KRQE) - The 13-year-old boy killed in a crash near White Rock Wednesday afternoon was the son of firefighters' union president Diego Arencón, KRQE News 13 has learned.

The boy was riding in the backseat of a car hit by a pickup truck Santa Fe County sheriff's deputies reported had been weaving on State Route 4.

Sources confirmed the teen was the son of Arencón, president of the Albuquerque Area Fire Fighters union.

Santa Fe Sheriff's Department deputies allege the pickup driver, Dennis Bernal, 43, was swerving in and out of his lane on State Route 4 when he crashed nearly head-on into a Honda sedan driven Jennifer Ventura-Trujillo, 41, of White Rock shortly before 3 p.m.

Ventura-Trujillo was treated for injuries at Los Alamos Medical Center and release, while a teen girl in the car was taken to a hospital with serious injuries.  Police have not released the name of either teen, and would only say the boy and Ventura-Trujillo are related.

At last report Bernal remained hospitalized in what is described as stable condition.

The investigation into the crash continues with neither citations issued nor charges filed.
