TAOS, N.M. (KRQE) - The state Department of Transportation says a construction project is forcing the nighttime closure of a bridge over the Rio Grande gorge near Taos.
The bridge will be closed in both directions Wednesday night starting at 10:30 p.m. and continuing through 7 a.m. Thursday.
A closure also occurred Tuesday night as workers replace bearings between steel piers and concrete columns. There were closures earlier this month to replace bridge decking.
The bridge is about 600 feet above the Rio Grande, and is among the highest in the United States. It was completed in 1965, and is on U.S. Highway 64 about eight miles northwest of Taos.
