SINGAPORE (AP) — Four-time major winner Phil Mickelson has been elected to the World Golf Hall of Fame.

The Hall of Fame says Mickelson, who became eligible after turning 40 last year, received 72 percent of votes cast.

Mickelson says it was a "special, cool honor." The three-time Masters champion, who is playing at the Singapore Open, says he hopes to win at least 11 more tournaments to give him 50 victories in his career.

PGA Tour Commissioner Tim Finchem says Mickelson is "exactly what you like to see in a player."

Mickelson will be inducted on May 7 at the World Golf Hall of Fame & Museum in St. Augustine, Florida.
