Family lays Johnny Tapia to rest

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Five-time world champion boxer Johnny Tapia was buried Monday.

His family held a private funeral at New Beginnings Church in northeast Albuquerque then buried him at the San Jose Cemetery near Coors and Arenal in the south valley.

Nearly 7,000 people packed the pit Sunday to pay their final respects.

Tapia died a week ago Sunday.

It is still unknown what killed him.
