SONOMA, Calif. (AP) - Carl Edwards will skip the Nationwide Series race at Road America to focus on the Sprint Cup event at Infineon Raceway.

The decision to skip Saturday's race in Wisconsin was announced after Friday's qualifying session. Edwards was scheduled to fly to Road America and miss Saturday's two practice sessions in Sonoma.

He had said before practice that if his car was no good, he would use the same setup as Marcos Ambrose to compensate for missing Saturday's practices.

Roush Fenway Racing was apparently not so keen on that idea after Friday's struggles.

Edwards is the Sprint Cup Series points leader. Billy Johnson was the fastest driver in Friday's Nationwide practice, and will replace Edwards in the race.
