ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - A woman injured in a crash is suing a Northern New Mexico sheriff over claims that he failed to hold a drunk driver accountable in her accident.
The Las Vegas Optic reported the woman claims Mora County Sheriff Thomas Garza let an intoxicated driver who injured her off the hook.
The lawsuit says 28-year-old Josephine Torres was injured in May when a truck swerved into her lane, hitting her car head on. It goes on to say one deputy determined the driver might be highly intoxicated but allowed the driver to go free at Garza’s command.
The State Law Enforcement Academy Board suspended Garza’s license in September after he had a run in with a deputy over a DWI case.
