ALBUQUERQUE (AP) - Authorities say a Navajo Nation law enforcement officer has shot and wounded a possible murder suspect in New Mexico.
The FBI, New Mexico State Police and Navajo Nation Division of Public Safety are investigating the shooting.
They say it occurred about 3 a.m. Wednesday in the vicinity of Two Grey Hills, near the New Mexico-Arizona border southwest of Shiprock.
Navajo police officers were investigating the death of a 34-year-old Newcomb man, who was in an altercation with two other men Tuesday near Sheep Springs.
Officers located two men believed to be the suspects in a stopped vehicle. A confrontation ensued between one of the officers and a suspect and shots were fired.
The unidentified suspect is reported to be in critical condition to San Juan Regional Medical Center.
