Judge Bob Schwartz dies Monday

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - District Judge Bob Schwartz died Monday morning in Albuquerque from complications following a broken leg.

For several decades Judge Schwartz, who was in early 60s, has been a well-known figure in Albuquerque’s legal and political circle.

In addition to his wild hair the former Bernalillo County District Attorney and current District Judge, Schwartz was known for speaking his mind.

According to officials Judge Schwartz died Monday morning of Pneumonia. Less than a week ago the judge broke his femur after tripping on his dog.

Judge Schwartz was in the news a few years ago after his dog bit pretty seriously at his home.

The Republican served two-terms as a District Attorney in Albuquerque and finished a close second to Marty Chavez in the 2001 Mayoral election.

Judge Schwartz served as Governor Bill Richardson’s Crime Czar before Richardson appointed him to the bench four years ago.

In addition to handling several prominent criminal cases, Judge Schwartz found himself in the limelight two years ago after the State Supreme Court publicly reprimanded him f or his involvement with a Public Defender who had cases in his court.
