ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - It was a Christmas tradition that lit up a neighborhood and brightened holiday spirits, but in November vandals pulled the plug on a very popular Albuquerque Christmas light show.
The crook or crooks returned with an unusual item and it could help the victims solve multiple problems.
This is what the Speake's house near Alameda and Wyoming usually looks like around the holidays.
Now there are no lights, no music and no show.
In November KRQE News 13 first reported how vandals cut all the cords and plugs off their very elaborate Christmas display.
Then last Saturday the Speakes found a bag full of plugs in their front yard.
“I don't know if they were feeling bad or it was just ha ha ha,” Harold Speakes said.
The vandals returned about 100 plugs they destroyed and besides providing evidence they offered a glimmer of hope..
“We’ll go through and what ever we can repair we will repair most of it we'll just tare it apart and re-do it,” Harold said.
It's going to be time consuming but repairing the plugs will save some money.
For the last six years the show's raised $15,000 for the Make a Wish Foundation.
The vandals not only stole that show and those donations but for many they carried away a Christmas tradition.
“My daughters are upset that we're not putting Christmas lights up outside and it's just been hard,” Harold said.
This trampoline frame would have been the display's latest addition.
It will have to wait twelve more months to make a debut along with another very important feature.
“Some security cameras yeah buying some security cameras to see if i can stop some of it,” Harold said.
The Speakes are still collecting donations for the make a wish foundation.
