Video: Possible UFO sighting?

't looked like the sun that had shrunken down'

(CNN) – Some people in southern Illinois are reporting something strange hovering in the skies in recent days -- and nobody knows what it is.

Images of the lights from a local newspaper bring to mind the movie "Close Encounters of the Third Kind."

It’s been a hot topic in the small town of Hecker, Ill.

What they’ve seen has everyone mystified.

And what have they seen?

Witnesses describe it as a large, bright light with four lights around it rotating. Some have said it is a single, bright solid colored light, others have said it's red, green, yellow and pink just rotating around.

Judy and Jim Rachell of Freeburg, Ill. Claim they saw the unidentified lights back in early October.

“It looked like the sun that had shrunken down to like the size of soccer ball and that's what it looked like to me,” says Judy.

According to the Monroe County Independent, police responded to a report of the phenomenon on Tuesday.

It reports they saw the lights, patrolled the area and set up a viewing area, but with no present danger, returned to their patrols.

Scott Air Force Base says it was not aware of any aircraft in the area at the time.
