(CNN) - The first mile-high skyscraper could be a reality by 2025. That's according to a Chicago architect in an interview with Bloomberg.
The tallest building in the world right now is the the Burj Khalifa in Dubai. It has 160 floors and stands at more than 2,700-feet tall.
A mile high mega-structure would almost double that in size. In fact, the Burj Khalifa is expected to fall into second place by 2018, anyway, when a skyscraper in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia is built.
Chicago architect Timothy Johnson tells Bloomberg the technology to build a mile-high structure already exists. He says he had discussions about building a tower a mile-and-a-half high four-years ago. But Johnson says the project was put on hold because of the economic downturn.
