Man banned from national forests for building trails

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) — The U.S. Forest Service says a Village of Oak Creek man has been banned from national forests in Arizona for two years after admitting he was building forest trails without permission.
The Arizona Daily Sun reports 74-year-old Gerald Griffin was also ordered to pay $1,000 in restitution.
According to the Forest Service, Griffin admitted to building trails on the Red Rock Ranger District a couple of days a week for the past three years in order to "help trail users."
Forest officials said illegal trail construction continues to impact the district by causing erosion and impacting archaeology, plants and wildlife.
