ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - New Mexico scientists are tracking an asteroid that will pass close to the earth later this week.
The 150-foot wide space rock will come within 17,200 miles of our planet Friday.
That's closer than weather satellites.
Scientists will use the very large array radio telescope on the San Augustin Plains west of Socorro, to study the asteroid's spin.
They say it's important to know which direction the asteroid is spinning so they can determine its shape and interior.
