Pearce reacts to Sandy relief vote

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - New Mexico congressman Steve Pearce is under fire after he voted against a $10 billion aid package for Hurricane Sandy victims.

That aid is going to people who paid their premiums in the National Flood Insurance Program.

The New York Daily News published Pearce’s number and the numbers of the 66 other GOP members who voted against the aid...encouraging their readers to let the congressman know how they feel about that vote.

In a statement about the vote, Pearce shared his opinions.

"The FEMA Flood Insurance Program is a broken system-despite constant attempts to expand revenue at a cost to New Mexicans, it remains completely insolvent. As our national debt crisis continues, we need to fix our broken systems, not put them deeper in debt."

Pearce was also one of only nine house republicans to vote against reelecting John Boehner as speaker of the house.
