Johnson effect could have lasting impact

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - While many experts have said Gary Johnson likely won’t win the Presidential race, that’s not stopping the Libertarian candidate from working just as hard as his opponents as the clock winds down.

The Former New Mexico Governor says it’s not about winning or losing, but rather breaking up the major political parties.

Outside of taking votes away from current President Barack Obama and Republican candidate Mitt Romney, Johnson’s bid could have lasting impact on his political future.

If Johnson gets at least five percent of the popular vote, he would receive Government matching funds which would help him compete in future elections.

Johnson’s campaign hopes his success will also open the doors for future third-party candidates.

On Sunday Johnson participated in a third-party debate sharing his message of smaller government. On Monday he has one last debate against Green Party candidate, Jill Stein.

Johnson will make his way back to Albuquerque on Election night, hosting an Election party at Hotel Albuquerque.
