ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - It's the final push to sway voters as Election Day is now only two days away.

The congressional race will finish on the streets, where volunteers and the candidates themselves are asking people for their votes.

Both camps for Martin Heinrich and Heather Wilson are canvassing communities across the state this weekend.

The two candidates out meeting people face-to-face and volunteers are swamping phone lines

Congressman Heinrich's camp says hundreds of volunteers spread their resources throughout the state this weekend.

They know the last days are crucial for a close race.

Republican Wilson hit the streets of Albuquerque Sunday afternoon.

She surprised some of her supporters at their homes asking for votes.

An Albuquerque Journal poll that came out last week put Heinrich * points ahead of Wilson, 50 percent to 42 percent.

Heinrich says his poll has a wider margin while Wilson says her poll puts her neck-and-neck.

They know it's not over until the votes are in and that is why this last ditch effort is so important.

“Talking to people, answering those last minute questions, calling them on the phone, encouraging them to vote, seeing if they have anything they want to know from me,” Wilson said.

The Wilson campaign will end the night in Los Alamos, while Heinrich is in Albuquerque Monday.

Independent candidate Jon Barrie is also on the ballot for the senate seat.

Whoever wins will replace Senator Jeff Bingaman, a democrat who is retiring after 30 years in office.
