LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) - New Mexico State University is opening a new mental health care clinic aimed at serving low-income residents in Doña Ana County.

The school announced Monday that the New Mexico State University Community Mental Health and Wellness is expected to open in July.

Various reports have faulted Doña Ana County on the quality mental health care due to transportation barriers and cultural understanding.

The planned clinic will have bilingual mental health services and allow patients to be charged on a sliding scale depending on income.

The clinic is a joint effort of NMSU's College of Education and College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences.
