ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - The New Mexico Department of Health is concerned about the number of Whooping Cough cases are up in the state.

Cases have skyrocketed in just one year from 275 to 612.

The Department has started a public awareness campaign with billboards and public service announcements.

People who come in contact with children are urged to get vaccinated. The disease is spread by coughing and sneezing.

Whooping cough has already killed two New Mexico children this year, a 2-month-old girl and a 4-year-old boy.
